Each organism is affected by different factors which include availability of resources. Since most resources are finite and that no organism lives in isolation, where organisms have very similar requirements for survival, growth and reproduction, competition will result, especially where demand exceeds the supply.
Competition is defined as an interaction between individuals sharing a resource that is in limited supply. It leads to reduction in survivorship, growth and/or reproduction of the individuals concerned.
