Differentiate between receptive and expressive language difficulties

Receptive language consists of linguistic information that is received by the brain. Children with a receptive-language disorder have a glitch in the way they receive information. Information comes in, but the child‘s brain has difficulty responding to it quickly, which can cause the child to appear disinterested or aloof. Once a message is received and interpreted, the brain needs to form a response.
Expressive language involves the ability to express one‘s thoughts. Some children can easily understand what is said to them, but they have difficulties when they try to form a response and express themselves.
