Determination is the act of coming up with a decision to a particular issues in life.It could also be termed as the firmness to achieving a particular purpose.This has been clearly shown by Bertolt through several characters as discussed below.
Simon Shashava is determined to have Grusha for a wife.Before going to the Passian War,he gave her his chain and asked her if she was going to wait for her.Grusha agreed to wait for him by telling him that she was going o wait for him.After the war,Simon comes back to Grusha thus the determination to have her is clearly shown.
The governors wife,Natella Abashwili is very much determined to get her late husbands wealth .Even though it had taken her a long time before seeing Baby Michael,she decides to go to the court to seek custody of her child with the aim of having him as at through way to get his late husbands wealth.
Grusha,the kitchen maid is determined to keep baby Michael even though she is not her biological mother.Her determination is seen when she crosses the rotten bridge with her,when she again agrees to marry the dying man Jussup so that Michael can have a father.In court,she defends baby Michael and even when the Judge,Judge Adzak tell her to pull against Natella,she refuses saying that she can not tear the child apart,and explains all what she sacrificed for the child in determination to have him as a her child.
Determination thus has been shown by these characters with a bid of each one of them coming to a resolution which will favour them.
