Course outline
The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with the basic concepts related to instruction, principles of learning and instruction, planning instruction, instructional strategies, methods and techniques and help them to think critically about the principles and methods of instruction by making a linkage between these methods, techniques and practice. The course will also expose the student to various models, approaches and methods of classroom teaching. The course will also equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to facilitate effective classroom teaching and learning so that they can apply them in their subjects of specialization.
COURSE OUTCOMES
By the end of this course the learner should be able to;
Identify with the basic concepts related to instruction;
Describe the perspective of effective teaching for the 21st century through understanding the art and science of teaching
Develop an understanding of the theoretical foundations behind teaching and learning
Identify with the principles of learning and instruction instructional strategies, methods and techniques
Identify and explain the various models, strategies, methods and skills of teaching from which they can select the most appropriate ones to suit their own instructional situations
Discuss the purposes, characteristics, advantages and limitations of the various instructional methods, strategies and techniques
Develop an understanding, practice and apply skills needed to plan and prepare for classroom teaching
Plan effectively for lesson teaching
Conduct successful lessons based on the knowledge and skills acquired from the course
Review with understanding the leadership and organizational aspects of teaching
Identify appropriate strategies for handling the individual learning needs of all the learners in their class.
Explain the dynamics of teaching both inside and outside the classroom
Develop a personal and individualization understanding towards instructional approaches, methods, techiniques and strategies
