Fully Chartered Public (Governmental) Universities in Kenya.

The education sector in Kenya has undergone tremendous development since independence where there were very few institutions which were offering education. The University of Nairobi was the first government institution of higher learning to be established but since that time, many institutions have been established.

The major reform that occurred in the education sector is the repeal of Acts of parliament for the former seven public universities in Kenya which operated under individual Acts. When the enactment of new law (universities Acts No. 42 of 2012) occurred, all public universities were audited and re-accredited a fresh through the award of charters. This also led to upgrading of some constituent colleges to fully operational universities. The charter awarded to the public universities in Kenya was done in 30th June 2013.
