Have you ever wondered why some people are successful in life while others are not? The truth is that every one of us should be successful in life if only we can bring out the gifts and talents within us. And what are these gifts and talents? These are capacities, proficiencies, aptitudes, skills or masteries that are extra ordinary or above average. Every one of us is born unique so as to fulfill a specific task and make a difference in the society. Even identical twins though similar in many ways have that uniqueness in them that is different from the other.

But we first have to identify these capabilities in us before we are able to make that difference. That should be the starting point. Parents and teachers are the best gifts and talent identifiers. This is because they are the first people in the life of the child even before the child knows what’s good or bad. A parent can see that thing that the child does very well and with a passion. The teacher on the other hand can identify the pupils who don’t do well in class but do very well in another area. They should then help the child to excel in the area they are best at, from that point on. There are those people who are already grownups but have never identified their gifts and talents, well, all is not lost. One of the ways of identifying those gifts is through other people. That thing that others keep complimenting you for, that thing that you don’t struggle doing but always comes out right, and that thing that you have such a great passion in, well, don’t you brush it off, all you have to do is to nurture it and it could take you

places.

The best time to identify our gifts and talents is as early as possible. This is important so as to avoid wastage of time and resources doing things that will not help neither you nor the society. It would be a big mistake for a parent to dictate to a child what career to take in life, for the child to do it just to please the parent, study all the way to the university, only for the child, now a grown up to give the parent the certificate and tell them that its theirs, and then begins the courses of their choice. This is wastage of time and resources.

Nurturing our gifts and talents is of much importance in life. Firstly, it helps in specializing what one is best in; specialization brings effectiveness and efficiency in ones field of specialty. A good example is how our bodies work. The many parts of the body have their own functions in which they function best in, without one getting in another’s way and creating deadlock. In the society there will be no confusion as to who is supposed to do what; every one compliments the other as in the case of body parts. Gifts and talents also help us to become successful and excel in life. There’s also the fulfillment that comes from living while fulfilling ones purpose in life.

Someone once said that success in life is discovering and completing one’s purpose for their existence. And the greatest tragedy in life is not ever discovering one’s purpose in life, it is like an assignment that has to be discovered and completed. Truth is, there is a star in each and every one of us, what is needed is to discover where it is located.

Gifts and talents are the greatest wonders of creation, and they are found not in some, but in all of us.
