There are always those little medical conditions that will just never go away. A sore throat is one of them. Contrary to popular belief, sore throats do not necessarily come in just the cold season. They are as common during the dry season.

A sore throat normally has a number of causes. One of the most common causes is the common cold. Both, more often than not go hand in hand. Other common causes include dry air and coughing. If the air around you is dry and you breath it in continuously, the throat is bound to get dry and become sore. This can be prevented by drinking plenty of fluids. Coughing can be checked by taking cough syrups.
Other causes of a sore throat include various viruses and bacteria. These can be checked by use of antibiotics and analgesics such as paracetamol.

There are home remedies though that you can employ to alleviate the intensity of a sore throat. You can take half a teaspoon of common salt dissolved in a glass of warm water and gargle for at least twenty seconds. Alternatively, slice a lemon and garlic in a sufuria, add a glass of water and boil. Filter and drink the liquid.

It is important to note that a normal sore throat should last no more than two weeks. A sore throat that persists for more than two weeks is usually an indication of other medical conditions such as throat cancer or HIV. One should therefore go for appropriate medical tests if the sore throat persists for more than two weeks.
