Grapes are a good fruit for sustained good health. Unfortunately, only a small percentage is eaten as fruit: most is destined for the production of alcoholic beverages, particularly wine.

Two types of nutrients stand out in the grape's composition; sugars and B complex vitamins. Grape proteins, although scarce's contain all essential amino acids. Minerals are present in moderate amounts.

Some benefits of grapes include:

i. Grapes are highly recommended for any cardiac conditions because:

- They provide energy in the form of simple sugars that the heart muscles use to contract.

- Grapes are rich in potassium and also contain calcium and magnesium. These minerals are involved in cardiac contractions.

- Grapes contain virtually no sodium or saturated fat, the two primary enemies of the cardiovascular system.

ii. Grapes are one of the richest fruits concentrated in iron hence of benefit to people with anemia

iii. Grapes activate the detoxifying effect of the liver, increasing bile production.

iv. Grapes are a mild laxative that relieves chronic constipation due to lazy intestine.

v. Because of their diuretic and decongestive action, as well as their mineral composition and low levels of proteins, grapes are highly recommended in cases of renal failure due to nephritis, nephrosis, or other causes.

Here is how to prepare natural grape juice

i. Place the whole grapes in a blender. While it is more time consuming, the seeds can be removed for better flavour. This method is of benefit:

a. To take full advantage of all of the medicinal properties of the skin on the heart and arteries

b. To take advantage of the anti-carcinogenic effect of the resveratrol found primarily in the skin of the grape

2. Use a strainer to eliminate skin and seeds. This gives a delicious, fine textured juice.
