Circumcision, known to many as the cut of the foreskin has been a traditional rite of passage for many communities especially in Africa. In Europe, the practice is ignored by many but all over the world over 60% of men are circumcised, either as an infant or as a teenager as a rite of passage. Did you know that circumcision has many benefits than what you know? Religions like Muslim and Christianity also support the act of circumcising their males as a way of being faithful to their religious laws. In Kenya, circumcision is practiced by almost all the tribes except a few who are nowadays accepting the practice for some health benefits. You will not believe it when you hear the benefits of cutting that foreskin. 1. Cancer of the penis: Although rare but it occurs in 1 out of 1000 older men, research has proven that infant circumcision can prevent this by up to 100% prevention.2. Cancer of the cervix: I know you wonder how cancer of the cervix is related to men, but believe it or not 20% of the cervix cancer in the world is caused by Human Papilloma Virus which thrives under the foreskin and can be transmitted during a sexual intercourse.3. HIV and AIDS: This is quiet common, many people know that men who are circumcised are 8 times less likely to contact the virus, and this is also a major reason why cultures that don’t circumcise their men have adopted the practice of circumcision.4. STI,s : Sexual Transmitted Diseases can also be prevented at the same percentage as HIV and AIDS although medical practitioners recommend the use of condoms for total protection.5. Balantis: This might be mistaken from STIs but it is just an unpleasant inflammation of the penis ‘head’ of glan, if can be prevented by circumcision.6. UTIs: Urinary Track Infections, which occur even to babies, are 10 times less likely to occur on babies who have been circumcised.
