The Ideos phone was launched in Kenya early last year, retailing at around Kshs 8,000 making it among the cheapest android powered phones in the market. Here’s a look at the good and bad of the Ideos phone:The Good• Android Market - There are thousands of free applications that one can download from the android market e.g. the Dstv Application, games, e-books etc.• 3.2 Megapixel camera – The Ideos phone comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera which captures images clearly.• Android operating system – The android operating system is open software which makes the Ideos phone “intelligent”. one thing about this phone is that software developers can also create their own applications• Wi-Fi enabled – With Wi-Fi spots popping up almost everywhere the ideos phone comes in handy when one wants to surf the net and download stuff.• 3G enabled – This makes surfing the internet a faster experience especially when streaming videos. The Bad• Low battery life – One has to keep charging the phone almost everyday because the short span of the battery. This is a nuisance especially when one has traveled to remote areas where electricity is an issue.• Unclear images at night – The onset of darkness brings “death” to the ideos camera. Most images captured at night are not very clear.• Applications downloading automatically – Applications usually download automatically unless they are turned off and this can really consume your credit or data bundle.• Complicated way of sending items via Bluetooth – I find it a bit complicated sending items via Bluetooth while using the Ideos application.ConclusionEven though the Ideos phone has a few disadvantages here and there I think the benefits outweigh them and I think it has made many Kenyans jump a step in the usage of smartphones!
