Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology(JKUAT Kakamega branch) and other major colleges in Kakamega like Kenya Institute of Management(KIM Kakamega branch), among others.
One thing has led to another in Kakamega and within a twinkle of an eye, investors started eying Kakamega. First there was Yako supermarket, then Nakumatt supermarket and now Tuskys supermarket. The investors do not want to be left behind in the wave that is sweeping Kakamega, they want to take hold of the prime investment opportunities that lie in Kakamega.
Kakamega also boasts of two major tourist attraction sites. The Kakamega forest is home to many tourists. The forest boasts of different tree species and different animal species. The famous Kakamega crying stone is an attraction that ever oozes out water that runs from a high rock.
Industrial-wise, Kakamega prides itself in the ever expanding West Kenya Sugar Factory which is located along Lubao road, as you branch at the Kambi-Mwanza junction.
You can land in Kakamega by plane too - helicopters and small planes. Thanks to the Kakamega airstrip located just next to Golf Hotel in Kakamega's Milimani area.
Education standards in Kakamega have also shot up. This has seen Kakamega pride itself in producing Kenya's top Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education(KCSE) candidate, the one and only brilliant Job Nalianya of St. Peters Seminary. Kakamega also prides in its own Kakamega boys high school - now a fully fledged national school.
Kakamega therefore, I say, is a town to watch. Having mentioned just but a few, the town is growing at a rate that many never imagined would come to be. Businesses are sprouting, schools are emerging, churches, industries, I mean, everything is just shooting up. What do I say? Kakamega is a town to watch!
