The current 8-4-4 education system is in the process of being phased out and the government is still in a dilemma of whether to upgrade it or introduce the new 2-6-6-3 which seems superior. The 8-4-4 system has been in pursuit for more than two decades now and it's not adjusting with how the education world is changing globally, the system is exam oriented rather than being skill oriented. Students work very hard in this system just to pass exams while they are not sure where their career path will lead after their education since they are not skill oriented and innovative. Countries like Japan have adopted education systems whereby students don't rely on exams but the skills they have acquired during school time and this is the reason why these countries have moved their economies one step ahead. This system (8-4-4) has already failed to put skills in the job market and it is therefore not suitable for the growth of our economy, it also doesn't favor specialization as the graduates in the market are not creative enough to bring in new ideas that will propel the economy. The system has also made it easy to educate a bunch of students and yet very hard to create employment for them since proper research is not done on the courses pursued and that's why some courses at the universities are being fled by students while others are filled to the brim. We therefore need a good education system that will provide a good career guidance and give birth to a country full of graduates with creativity and innovative abilities in order to create and bring up new ideas that will establish employment opportunities therefore boosting the economy. The 2-6-6-3 system will be cheaper to many Kenyans and reduce the number of years one has to spend in a certain stage, students will also be able to choose their careers at an early stage and specialize in it.
