Forests are very important in maintaining the environment of Kenya. They are in fact very vital that their roles cannot be assumed. They contribute to many spheres of the people in that nation. Forests boost the economy of a country in a variety of ways. First they provide raw materials for industrial development. Factories like paper mills depend on soft-wood trees from forests to make paper. Those making medicines also obtain the herbs from forests. Such factories are avenues for employment and create revenue to the nation. Forests are used as field research centres by scientists for their research. They harbor a wide variety of plant and animal species which ensure research and experimentation. It is in these forests that very old and very new species on the planet are found. Such information collected by Scientists become vital in developing new theories, principles and facts. It is also used by the government in making national decisions. Forests are tourist attraction sites. They form beautiful scenery in the nation that attract tourists to visit the nation. As a result they bring huge revenues which benefit that particular nation. Kenya has used tourist attraction sites as one of its sources of income. Forests also play a big role in modification of country's climate. They are a water catchment areas which lead to rains. A forested nation is not under any threat of famine. Rain is very vital for agriculture and pasture growth. Soil erosion and degradation is also reduced due to the good soil cover maintained by trees and shrubs in a forest. Therefore forests affects agriculture in that particular line. The landscape of the country is maintained through these forest. Kenya must invest in a lot of afforestation to save its future.
