Poetry writing is not a skill confined to a few selected individuals, but can be cultivated.Poetry writting is not just putting down what one thinks. It also requires one to think seriously about the language he/she is going to use for maximum effect.

In order to write good poems, one may consider following steps
1.choose something to talk on.It might be a building,an aspect of nature or a person.

2.have something specific you want to say about the object you have chosen.

3.decide on the audience you want to reach.

4.ask yourself why do you want to say what you have i.e the purpose of the message.

5.decide how to put across the message(language and poetic devices)decide how to appeal to the audience you are aiming at.

Of the many ideas a prospective poet has on his/her mind, only a few of them can be contained in a poem.

Below are some guidelines on how to select the ideas to present a poem.
(a)choose a subject that is familiar to both you and the audience you have in mind.unfamiliar or very personal subjects are difficult to handle well and should be avoided if you are a beginner.

(b)once you have decided on the topic,e.g corruption, love, death, rain, famine, etc.decide on the approach you want to take
