Everyone to a certain degree is devoted to something according to their consciousness and experiences, both of which determine one's state of mind. The nature and intensity of one's desires also has a great deal to do with devotion.

Devotion means one's goals remaining fixed to a course. It means focusing one's effort on something specific and pursuing this course with great intensity. It is an attitude more than an act, and transcends from an idea into a lifestyle.

Some may only be devoted to one course, while others show their devotion to numerous course. We are in a constant race in life and the drive for success takes up most of our time and devotion. But by what measure do we determine success in life? Well, the yardstick varies greatly based on our consciousness. If you were to ask people what success is, most would answer "to acquire wealth and fame".

However, such a focus, for the most past, becomes a devotion to a greater bondage. There is nothing wrong with having money, but what counts is how we view and use the money we have acquired. As a tool for our own higher development and to uplift those in need, money is good. When it is used to control or hinder the lives of others for the sake of power, it is evil. So again, it is good to discriminate what we should become devoted to and to what degree.

Devotion can either free us or bind us. According to how we view life and where our desires are concentrated. We do not show devotion by loudly proclaiming it, but by silently expressing it through our actions and letting our light speak for us. Nothing truly valuable arises from

ambition or from a mere sense of duty it stems rather from love and devotion towards men and towards objective things. To succeed in your mission, you must have single-minded devotion to your goal. Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve.

You do not have to have a college degree to serve. You do not have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. I think of devotion as selfless acts of service in the face of a world where people are self-absorbed. Love and devotion are inseparable. There is a pattern of things we do for each other everyday;devotion and love more often than not are within these actions. Spiritual devotion requires discipline; you need to get your rhythm. Daily devotion makes you a better person and leads to a closer relationship with God. It also makes you disciplined in other areas in life.
