A flag of a country exemplifies the state's national unity and reflects the national events that shaped it. Every state in the world has a flag that is unique. Kenya is not an exception. It has a flag that was adopted in December 12 1963 when she got her independence from the British rule. The study of flags is called vexillology and flag specialist is referred to as a vexillologist. A flag is considered as living. Flags have etiquettes relating to them. For example, the flag should not be allowed to drag along the ground. A tattered or faded flag should be replaced. Any flag deserves respect. As much as important a flag is, people seem not to pay respect to it. You will not be surprised to find a well dressed person(meaning he or she is exposed or maybe educated) walking as the flag is hoisted. It is disheartening to witness such I-don't-care-kind of attitude towards the national cloth. As we(Kenyans) were taught in school, you should stand still and drop anything that you are holding whenever a flag is being hoisted. Who have failed in teaching Kenyans the flag etiquettes? The teacher? The police? The nation? Or it is just the usual Kenyan's ignorance? This as some of the questions the one, who is a true patriot, asks. There should be introduced, in our curriculum, a whole topic on flag etiquettes. The government through the police should make sure that those who are caught disrespecting the flag in any way, are brought to book. Lets up respect the national flag. Shall we?
