Nothing has been a boom in the Kenyan market more than mobile phones. They are of wide variety and different prices. However the majority of Kenyans live on less than a dollar a day yet they still desire mobile phones that are not only decent but also have plenty of features. This has resulted in a boom of counterfeit phones mainly made in China. The phones enter the country illegally and as a result the government does not get the necessary tax payments. Secondly, the phones are imitations of other brands and these results in loss of markets for the brands being imitated. The phones are also of poor quality and do not meet the international standards. This may pose health risks to those using them and may eventually lead to cancer. Counterfeit mobile phones are generally cheap but let’s not forget that cheap is expensive.
