I recently came across a startling research finding claiming that attractive people got hired quickly, got promotions within their first two years of getting hired in a company and also got compensated handsomely. The research also found statistically that attractive people earned on average 3-4 percent higher than the below average person. Some interviewers have poorly rated potential candidates due to their facial blemishes, scars, disfigurements, consequently affecting their evaluation in the final results. According to an article; psychology today, Dario Maestripieri says beautiful people are seen as an asset because they tend to bring more money to their companies due to their irresistible looks. How true can that be? Does it mean they are disadvantaged in one way or another? My guess is-what you are thinking now. Even with the bias in the career world, their are still a lot more ways the less-fortunate can succeed in. Don''t go for certain occupation which emphasize on looks. A good example may be the media industry where employees are always in the limelight. A sales position may not work for you as well, since it involves a lot of interactions. I heard that even the customer''s decision to buy what you are selling is influenced by ones'' looks. It is however good to note that the attractive employee is always given attention so they have to maintain their status quo by working hard. They never want to loose their image, respect or attention. This personality trait ties them well with what employers are looking for and may give them fair advantage over the other employees. So if you don''t get promoted as you expected while another co-worker is always climbing the ladder, it is because they are always being watched by the boss and they know it very well. Since they are aware of this fact, they strive to perform and their results are readily visible. This is why the below average employee may be hardworking, always does their best but somehow no one seems to notice them.
