Agribusiness is the keeping of livestock and growing of crops for the purposes of making profit and as a source of income. Agribusiness can be practiced in so many capacities such as starting market gardening venture, starting a green house and keeping dairy livestock for milk to the population.

It is a little easier these days to start a venture on agribusiness since there are banks and financial institutions which can lend money at reasonable rates and one is given enough time to pay back the loan. If only you have land and want to venture in the same then you can get a loan against your title deed.

There are numerous advantages that come in with the engagement of agribusiness which include having a constant source of income since people need food constantly and this can even be made more by getting tenders from hotels and other eateries and even schools. A green house ensures that one is able to produce food throughout the year without stopping since the conditions are well controlled.

There are reasons why most people are shying away from the venture and mostly is because since there are people who have very little knowledge of the venture or some of them right off the venture as being for the retired generation and also for the uneducated lot but this is exactly the opposite since it is a venture just like any other one and even pays highly if done with a lot of planning and enthusiasm.

Kenya has the economic blue print under the vision 2030 and also is working under the Millennium Development Goals(MDGs)whereby fighting hunger is one of them. We all know that a hungry nation cannot do much and so with much food sustainability programs we can achieve more for the economy and

agribusiness can be a major pillar that can add so much food into our reserves such that the government will only need little to add on that.

Instead of you therefore complaining of lack of white collar jobs we can try to have our small gardens being turned to cash cows and create the much needed jobs. Let us embrace the phenomenon and surely we can never regret of venturing in the same.
