A study group is a group of students who meet regularly to study together. Study groups enhances harmony, promotes teamwork skills and improves student's problem solving skills. A study group can be a success if well organized and all members are committed to its objectives.

The following are tips on how to form a successful study group:

1. Regulate the size of the group. A group of three to five students is ideal. Groups of more than five students find it difficult to make decisions. In addition, they tend to wander away from the topic of discussion. On the other hand, groups of less than groups of less than three people can fail if one member cannot make it to the meeting.

2. Clarify the purpose and needs of the study group. Each group member should be clear about the goals of the group and how they are to be achieved. Goals should be clearly defined. In addition, it is also fundamental to incorporate individual member's needs to the group. Each member should spell out their personal goals and decide what should form the group's overall goals.

3. Set group norms. Norms are guidelines for behaviour and acceptable by everyone. The norms of a group should be clearly expressed so that all group members understand them. Ideal norms include resolving conflicts amicably, completing assigned tasks in time, contributing notions and opinions freely and respecting other member's opinions.

4. Be persistent. Group members need to establish trust and confidence in the study group. When faced with a challenge, work through problems with honesty and accountability.

5. Assign roles. Each member of the group should be assigned a role. This increases commitment among group members. Some of the roles to be assigned include chairperson, secretary and time keeper. These roles should be rotated among group members. This

is to enable each group member to have a chance to demonstrate their capabilities on each of these roles.

In conclusion, members should strive towards the success of the study group.
