The most critical relationship that one can ever have in his lifetime is that between you and your boss. Some people cope with it, some don’t, especially where the boss is mean and not being realistic. I have heard people complaining all the time that their bosses are always doing this or that to them. People have always said that their bosses never understand them. In this professional world, it is easy to find yourself in conflict with your boss especially if you are not tolerant enough. When the boss makes a mistake, he says he is only human, how about you making the same mistake? Probably you are branded a fool or something close to that.

All of us have bosses at our work places. At the end of the day, you will find yourself reporting to some authority at your place of work. So, what are some of the differences between you and the boss that you must understand? The following is a list of 10 things you have to know;

1. When he(your boss) assigns you a duty, he expects you to do it quickly and efficiently. If you take an extra time, he says you are slow. On the other hand, when he does it himself and takes more time than you, he is being thorough.

2. If you don’t get the work done due to one reason or the other, he says you are lazy. However, when the same thing happens to him, he is busy.

3. I had already mentioned this one, but I thought it was worthwhile to mention it again. Very common with Indian bosses. Let them catch you with a mistake and they will throw tantrums at you. They tell you that you are a fool. On their side, when they do the

same mistake, they say they are only human.

4. And don’t do something good at your work place without being told, or else you are accused of over-stepping the authority. However, when your boss does the same thing without consulting his senior, that’s called- taking initiative.

5. You become a bull headed whenever you take stands. But when your boss takes his stand, he is still being initiative.

6. This is what they call originality- when he skips some rules or etiquette. Try doing the same and you will be told you are playing rude.

7. They call it apple polishing, I hear. So don’t try to please your boss. On his side, when he pleases his senior, he’s being co-operative.

8. When you dash out of the office for a small errand without his permission, you are wandering around. How about him going to take lunch at 11:30 am? He is on business.

9. When he skips work, he must be very ill. How about you asking for a sick leave? They say you are always sick.

10. It is that time of the year again when things are just too hectic for you. So you decide to take a leave to rest some one month. The boss will suspect that you are headed for an interview somewhere. However, when he does the same, he is genuinely overworked and needs some rest.
