Remedies to challenges facing the Free Primary EducationThe introduction of the free primary education has seen a lot children equipped with the formal education to the extent that university entry has achieved the target of MDGs of upto 45% intake. There have been many challenges in the Kenyan primary schools with the up come of FPE. These include high admissions, low teacher-pupils ration, and inadequacy of study materials just to mention a few.The solutions include:1.Increasing public schools. With the increasing number of pupils who now have the opportunity to learn, more schools need to be built especially in remote areas where one has to walk a long distance to classes which are ballooning daily. This has a huge impact to pupils teacher relation and easy study time.2.Recruiting more teachers. The number of children has always been increasing who yearn for education. Teachers in these schools are few to attend to the large number of pupils; a classroom can have 70 pupils served by one teacher which may lead to poor quality education and attention to the learners. The Ministry should set aside funds to supplement in the payment of PA or those teachers employed by the parents.3. Providing adequate materials for teaching and learning.Textbooks have been few and five pupils can have a textbook among them. The amount of cash disbursed is not that enough to attain moderate running of activities in schools. Some schools have fewer pupils whereas others have many pupils. The government needs to look for other sources to increase the amount disbursed or enhance projects in schools during holidays or school running to bring in more cash in for catering this.4. Ensuring there is no delay in disbursement of fundsThe government has a role in its Ministry to ensure timely ascertainment of financial provisions in time. Delay hinders learning in schools as things like exercise books, a prerequisite to learning cannot be provided to learners. Also the managers in the offices should be skilled and responsible.5. Employment on merit and sacking of corrupt officials. There has been embezzlement of funds in the ministry. The top officials need to step down and a tribunal be formed to looked on the issue. The employment should be on merit to ensure stewards in the management of the finances.6. Education of the principalsSchool head teachers should be given free lessons on how to manage schools and finances. This is critical as to aid in financial management.
