The biometric voter registration process in Kenya.

I know your curiosity is at it's peak now. What is this biometric vote registration?

Biometric means biological data collection and tally. This involves your facial appearance (portrait) and your fingerprints.
Though the process is termed as biometric, the alphanumerical data will still be collected. Your age, gender, name, date of birth, etc.
In order to register as a voter, you'll only need your national, original identity card, or, a valid kenyan passport. And nothing more.

It's been clear that in the past years, some constituencies had a 110% voter turnout. This was a case of some dead people coming back to life, voting and died back. BVR will only allow living people to vote and no factitious characters.

During voting, the IEBC will ask for your identity card or a valid passport besides asking for your right hand fingerprints. I also believe they will check your facial portrait.

How to apply as a voter on 19th November-18th December. 2012.

Note: just carry your identity card, or a valid Kenyan passport.

Step. 1

You will be asked to provide some alphanumerical data by the first IEBC clerk who will be writing it down. That is:

Your identity card/passport

Your ID number: 8 digits/pass number.

Your name: surname, middle name, last name.

Your date of birth: dd/mm/yyyy

Your gender: male/female

Your physical disabilities.

Your constituency.

Your ward

Your polling station.

That will be all to expect from that IEBC clerk.

Step 2a

Your biometric data.
The next clerk will ask you to place your right four fingers on a scanner, this machine will collect the information.

This will be followed by the left hands, four fingers

And finally you'll place your both thumbs.

Note: to give the correct information, you'll need to have your hands clean and humid. Too dry or too wet hands won't give correct data information. So, clean your hands before going to that station to

register.

Step 2b

Your facial portrait.
The IEBC clerk will instruct you to sit on a chair in front of a web cam. This will capture your facial portrait.
Note:
-Do not smile.
-Remove all headgears [hats, marvins, cape]
-Uncover the ears. [for plaited hairs`
-Sit still.
-Remove all eye gears. [specs, shades, etc]

Step 3
You'll receive an ACKNOWLEDGEMENT form confirming your registration with the IEBC as a voter. During voting, you'll need to have only yourself and your identity card.

Note:
-If you have to change the above information, if some of it is misleading,
Don't go back to the station during the registration process. After 18th of December, you'll be notified on the date to change/confirm your alphanumerical data.
All biometric data/information will never be changed. This process will take 15 days.
