It's been barely a week since it started raining and yet every time when you walk out of the house, every place you walk on is flooded. It is not like the roads are old and have pot holes but they can't really let the water flow freely to the tunnels that are constructed by the roadside. It is quite a challenge for us citizens because we can't cross the road without getting water into our shoes. When the motorists pass us on the road they splash the dirty water on us as they over speed. It is also very common to end up mussy and a mess by the time you get to your destination.I pity the young kids who have to go to school during such times. They have to be neat but the situation makes it impossible for them to maintain cleanliness when they are headed to school. It is also very hard for their parents and or caregivers to get their clothes clean everyday and ensure that they are dry for another day because the mud and dirty water clogging the roadside makes it impossible for them to stay clean.Diseases that spread through contact with dirty water also spread like athletes feet and other skin infections which catch the foot. It is very hard to stay healthy when you are faced with flooded roads every morning and when you have to stay in a vehicle without windows and the water splashes on you.It is so sad that even the newest roads in the city get flooded when there's just some drizzle. What needs to be done of the roads is to make them more level so that they don't hold water and to ensure that they are passable in whatever kind of weather. The construction of roads should also take into consideration the needs of pedestrians. They should construct foot bridges along highways so that the pedestrians can have a place to shelter during the rains and also clean and dry surfaces to walk on so that they are not forced to cross the flooded roads. There is no need to have roads which are not really beneficial to the citizens. I mean there will be no gain if we have roads and a population full of sick people due to the poor hygiene on our roads. It would be wiser to take enough precaution to avoid accidents due to poor leveling and also to provide good accessibility of our infrastructure. Without taking any long term measures we will have a situation where children are carried away on our roads due to the floods. If we fail to do something also the rainy season will report high cases of production in the entire nation because people will fall ill and miss out on work, others will spend more on their medical bills which should actually be used in other sectors and the work places will be inaccessible due to poor road conditions which discourage any form of transportation. As Kenyans we need to stand up for our rights and tell the ministry of roads that we don't just need roads but we need good roads that will enhance transportation and productivity, roads that will improve our health issues.
