Most businesses today, whether large or small enterprises expend tons of energy each day. Being environmentally friendly is now the way to go. Over time, energy resources have dwindled, leaving people with little or no choice but to institute drastic measures. These practices may have started in homes, but there was need to extended them to huge business enterprises, rightly so, since these companies play the biggest role in pollution and energy waste.

Even though others may ague that implementing cost effective energy measures at the work place does not change anything, experts think otherwise. Conserving energy also translates to the general performance of the company. If a company were to cut their consumption by a certain percentage, the cost related to that percentage, however small, would indirectly reflect in the financial results of the company.

So, What does it take to make the workplace energy efficient? One may ask. This will depend with the type of facilities you hold and the nature of your enterprise. Here are a few general guidelines to note:

Heating and ventilation.
Most energy waste at the work place is related to air conditioning and heating units. Sometimes, they are constantly on no matter the weather. Certain technicalities within the system may also interfere with their energy consumption, making them expend more electricity. It is for this reason that temperature units need proper care. Filters should be changed twice a month if they become too dirty to function properly. There is need to invest on automated temperature control system because they are more energy efficient than the manual ones.

Turn off lights during the day.
Have you walked into an office and you noticed that a light was on and no one seemed to care? Some enterprises leave their light bulbs on even when it''s not necessary. Avoid using electricity for

light during the day, stick to natural source of light-sunlight. You can shop around for some low watt energy-saving bulbs or transistors at your nearest store. These models use a significantly less energy than the normal bulb. You can also invest on automated light switches that turn bulbs on and off through sensors. They essentially detect the proximity of people which means they will cut off electrical current ones you leave the room.

Mind electronic equipment.
Once you finish using electronics such as computers, coffee makers and other related appliance, switch them off. Unplug all cords to cut off the flow of electricity and subsequent energy waste. When you go to shop for electronic equipment, ensure that they are NABERS compliant, that is, look for that sticker at the back or bottom of the equipment before you purchase. These equipment are the perfect choice when it comes to energy saving. Consider using rechargeable battery units, which consume a significantly less energy than appliances that plug directly into the socket.

Conserve water.
By inviting a plumber once a month to conduct routine check-ups or fix any leaks within the pipes will save you from the headache of paying abnormal water bills. They have always said that prevention is better than taking action once a problem occurs.

If you want to do it more precisely, learn to think green. Start by identifying those things in the office you think are pollutants or obvious avenues of waste energy. This coming year, make it a priority to leave clean and an energy efficient life. Think green!
