Job lose can be hard to accept. But it can happen to anyone anytime. It may be due to gross misconduct, failure to attend to your duties or simply a lay off due to ever changing forces of demand and supply in the market. Whatever the case may be, you need to get your foot back on track once this happens to you. Sometimes this scenario can land you in a different career path you least expected, but that may be just the right path to your motivation and success story-well, who knows?

The following guidelines can help you while you still search for a new career.

1. Look for alternative jobs.
All of us had interests in pursuing certain careers when we were young, unfortunately we found ourselves doing something else not related to our childhood passion. If you have related skills that you can transfer to a career of your choice, this is the time to do so. There are very few chances in life where people can get the opportunity to really learn what they want to do as profession. This is the time to do some research on companies and find out which offers they are having, if you like them, apply for them. When you find an alternative job that matches your career path and provides for your family, the better!

2. Go back to school.
It's never too late to sharpen your technical skills. If you have the necessary resources, acquire new skills that will be of help when you finally land the next job. There are several alternatives out there when it comes to education. You can enroll for an undergraduate, postgraduate or doctorate evening classes. This will open doors once again. Your former employer may close your door, but furthering your education will open up more doors.

3.

Volunteer to find a new career path.
I have hard of people being laid off and then finding their new passion by volunteering in non-profit organizations. You may think that you've exhausted your capacity until you go out there and realize that you have another hidden talent you have not discovered. There is reward in serving the society. There are several career paths that people can take in non-profit organizations and this can lead to the type of career that people may find satisfying.
