Education is an imperative factor for the attainment of personal and national goals.The government understands this and has made primary education free.However secondary school education remains a pipe dream for a good number of bright Kenyan pupils due to prohibitive costs.
Some corporates and charitable organizations offer scholarships to needy students to pursue their secondary education.They include the following though not limited to.

1.Equity/ Master card Wings to fly Scholarship.
This is an initiative running for nine years.It sponsors needy but bright students to pursue four years of high school.The scholarship covers the cost of tuition,books,boarding and any other costs involved.The scholars also go for mentorship programmes during their school holidays.
To be eligible one should;
Have sat for KCPE in the previous year and scored a minimum of 350 out of 500 marks.
Be an orphan of from a needy background and prove that they are unable to pay their school fees.
The scholarship will be announced in the media every year in the term it runs.Applicants are interviewed by a panel to determine their need and vulnerability.
Successful applicants have a chance to join the pre-university sponsorship programme by Equity bank.


2. Cooperative Bank Foundation Scholarship
This is an annual scholarship that sponsors needy students through all four years of secondary school.Students are selected from all over Kenya.To be eligible one should
Have sat KCPE in the previous year and scored at least 350 out of 500 marks.
Be from a needy family that is unable to pay school fees.
At least one of the parents should be a member of a co operative society.
If an orphan,one of the parents should have been a member of a

co operative society.
The student should have been admitted to either a public or private secondary school provided the annual fees do not exceed Ksh.50,000.


3. Jomo Kenyatta Foundation Scholarship.

This is an education fund that sponsor students from needy backgrounds for all four years of high school.It is annual and picks students from all over Kenya.
To be eligible one should satisfy the following
Be a Kenyan Citizen.
Have sat KCPE in the previous year and scored the minimum set mark.
Be an orphan or from a family unable to pay school fees.
Be of good discipline.
Have been admitted to a public secondary school.Pupils from public secondary schools will be given an advantage.


4. Kenol/Kobil Education Scholarship.

This is an annual scholarship that covers tuition and other statutory fees for bright needy pupils for all four years of secondary education.It also proceeds to cover the cost of tertiary education for beneficiaries admitted to public universities.
Beneficiaries also go through rigorous mentorship programmes.To be eligible a student should

Have sat KCPE in the previous year.
Be a Kenyan from a poor family that is unable to pay fees or an orphan.
Must have gained admission to a public National or County/Provincial School.


5. Hilde Back Education Fund

This is a charitable organization that provides scholarships and other academic opportunities to bright needy children from Kenya.For Secondary school scholarships, a student must satisfy the following
Must have exceptional academic ability with at least 380 out of 500 marks in KCPE.
Be from a poor background and is unable to raise school fees

6. Palm House Foundation Scholarship.
Palm house foundation sponsors students from destitute families or total orphans to pursue secondary education.The beneficiaries go through mentoring and career advice during the school holidays.
To be eligible for these a student should be needy and have proof of academic excellence in their KCPE exams.They should also have been admitted to a National or provincial school.


7. KCB Bank Foundation Scholarship.

Kenya Commercial Bank awards one hundred scholarships to pupils who sat their KCPE an scored highly.They should have gained admission to National or Provincial Schools.They should also be able to prove that they are unable to pay school fees for their secondary education.


8. Nation Media Group ''Get on the Bus'' Scholarship.

This scholarship was launched in 2011 and is also available in Uganda and Tanzania.The programme provides scholarships for all four years of secondary education as well as mentorship by experts and NMG staff.It is available to twenty five beneficiaries who perform well in their KCPE and are admitted to National and Provincial schools.

9 Elimu Fund Scholarships.

This is a charitable organization based in the US.It sponsors students from poor families through all four years of high school.A student should have completed KCPE in the preceding year with a minimum of B.The funds are disbursed annually subject to performance.The scholarship in most cases covers 100% of all fees.
