Vision 2030 is no longer a dream as various projects have already kicked off while some have been completed, example the Thika super highway. Recently we witnessed the launch of Kenya's first techno city which is anticipated to create more than 200,000 jobs. Although the vision is on its way to become a reality, various sectors in Kenya need urgent reforms simply because the current colonial systems have become obsolete and are not compatible with the current global technology transformations. One key sector that needs urgent transformation is the education system. Kenya has been using the 8-4-4 education system for the last few decades and it has come to our attention that this system is being phased out. Apart from being ancient, the system is also biased as it places more emphasis on academics alone. This emphasis poses a great threat to other key areas like talents, areas of interest and so on. We have witnessed students who don't make it to the top being deemed as unsuccessful and they end up being desperate in the society. Who said you have to be number 1 in class in order to succeed in life? This culture should be buried as many people are not good in class but they are very good in other platforms like entertainment, sports and so on. The system has also been blamed for wasting a lot of time because students are being fed things that are not helpful in their career path, example a student who anticipates to become an engineer if forced to sit in a history class for a minimum of two years which will all go to waste once the career path has been established. The vision 2030 won't be a reality if Kenya's job market is not on a global competitive level simply because the world is changing very fast and we need to change with it. Technical skills play a great role in the development of our country but they are not given the consideration to shine in the lime light because most attention goes to professional fields. If and only if the education system is upgraded or changed is when we will have more professions in Kenya and across the East African region.
