Firstly, install a firewall that will keep unwanted traffic out and protect your home network. Unauthorized entry is blocked and your information is kept away from the dirty schemes of hackers. This will greatly reduce the chances of your network being hacked. To complement the firewall, it is advisable to use a web- filtering program. You could decide to purchase software that will protect your home network. In such a scenario the software will come with a default password. Change it immediately after installation. Using a default password is not recommended because hackers can access the serial number of the software and easily get the password from the manufacturers. They will then access your network and cause damage. Your personal computer may be used by people in the home. When somebody accesses the internet via your home network, you are a target for cyber criminals. The user may access sites that not safe ignoring warnings from the firewall software installed. When the user logs into unsafe websites your information is compromised. You could be hacked and lose important information. So inform and educate any user on your computer on the importance of safe surfing and help protect your home network. Be wary when opening attachments from emails. Some attachments may contain viruses. It is important to scan an attachment with the antivirus when downloading it to prevent entry of viruses. Spam messages often contain attachments that carry this malware. In the case of spam; install spam filter software that will detect and remove them from your email address.
