- Hop – jumping on one leg and landing on the same leg.
- Step – lifting your foot and putting it down in order to walk
- Skipping – is a step and a hop on one foot, followed by a step and a hop on the other foot.

Let Us Learn
• Skipping involves jumping with single or both legs.
• The parts of the body used when skipping are legs and hands.
• You can skip the rope alone, in pairs or in a group.
• Ropes, hula hoop and tyres can be used for skipping.

How To Skip A Rope
• Hold the rope at each end using each hand behind your body.
• Swing the rope upwards over the head bringing it forwards and downwards then jump over it as you swing the rope backwards.
• Continue doing this several times.

Practice Time
a) Skipping rules to keep you safe
1. Use a good rope.
2. Keep enough distance between you and other people.
3. Skip on a flat ground that does not have objects or holes.
b) Practise rope skipping
1. Skip a rope while moving in different directions such as forward, backward, to the left and to the right.
2. Skip a rope while moving in different ways such as forming circles, lines, curve, letters, numbers or shapes.
3. Skip at a low level, medium level and high level.
4. Skip over, under, between, along and besides objects.
