Brief Overview:

INTRODUCTION
Malaria is an infectious disease caused by a parasitic protozoan, a blood born parasite called plasmodium. WHO defines malaria as a disease of poverty caused by poverty. Plasmodium parasite is transmitted to man through bites from female Anopheles mosquitoes also called malaria vectors [WHO, Media center fact sheet Nov. 2017]. The natural ecology of malaria involves malaria parasite infecting successively two hosts, which are human and female Anopheles mosquito. Infection of the red blood cells is caused by plasmodium falsiparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium malariae and Plasmodium ovale.
