Chapter one
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Heat is a form of energy. It is measured using a thermometer to measure its intensity. Heat requirements depends on the water to be heated. At 00 water is ice or in cold sate, at 40- 1000 water is a liquid and above 1000 water is in gaseous sate. When water is boiled it takes up space by 1700. Heat energy can move from one place to another through three processes.
i. Convection
ii. Conduction
iii. Radiation
a) Convection is movement of heat through liquids
b) Conduction is movement of heat through metals from a higher to a low temperature.
c) Radiation is the transfer of heat in form of infrared form.
Plastic pipes are widely used in domestic hot and cold water supply an d a central heating system. Their flexibility offers the benefits of easy handling and installation. Plastic pipes are available in both straight lengths and coils which enables threading around obstruction sans through joints reducing the number of joints required and potential leaks. Where joints are required, the extensive range of fittings available for each pipe system enables reliable water tight joints to be made quickly and easily. This guide provides information on materials, service conditions, design and installation of plastic pipes primarily for domestic hot and cold-water systems and central heating systems for residential properties excluding patient accommodation. On the other hand, there is this problem of hard water on both cold-water system and water systems.
Hard water reduces efficiency of the system and durability also. There are tow types of water hardness.
