Summary

Research project on the factors that influence lending of loans to maize production farmers by commercial banks. A case study of Mt. Elgon constituency in Bungoma County.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Maize is one of the world-leading crops cultivated over an area of about 142 million hectares with productivity of 637 million tons of grains. In Nepal, the current area planted under maize is 849,892 hectares with an average yield of 2.02 tons per hectare. It is estimated that for the next two decades the overall demand for maize will be increased by 4 to 8 percent per annum resulting from the increase demand for food. Such increase demand must be met by increasing productivity of maize per unit land (paudyal et al. pingali,2001)
