• The objectives of the University address the current crisis of shortage of qualified professionals in public health in Africa.
• It uses its Sponsor’s national and international networks and reputation to bring together a diverse student population as well international faculty from the continent and from the North. This is slowly turning AMIU into a ‘hub of scholarship’ in African public and community health, a characteristic that is highly sought.
• The use of ICT as a means of delivery of the AMIU academic programmes, through e/mLearning, is the preferred mode of teaching and learning. This unique approach to training is institutionalized, through policy and practice, to ensure maximum reach to potential students, especially those who are from marginalized communities and fragile economies in Africa.
• The academic programmes have a strong practicum component to ensure the acquisition of competencies that are required by the professionals and the communities they serve. This is made possible by tapping into the many community health interventions implemented by Amref Health Africa across the African continent.
