Lesson Summary

A fruiterer bought 144 pineapples at sh. 100 for every six pineapples. She sold some of them at sh.72 for every three and the rest at sh.60 for every two. If she made a 65% profit, calculate the number of pineapples sold at sh. 72 for every three.

Text Answer

1446×100=2400

Profit of 65%
If 2400 = 100%
? = 165%

2400×165100=3960.(𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒)

Let the number sold for every three be x
The number sold for every two is 144 – x

S.P) =x3×72+144−𝑋2×60

= 24𝑋+30(144−𝑋)=3960

24𝑋+4320−30𝑋=3960

24𝑥−30𝑥=3960−4320

-6x6=-360-6

𝑥=60

So the pineapples sold at sh. 72 for every three were 60.

Next: A shopkeeper sells two types of pangas, type x and type y. Twelve type x pangas and 5 type y pangas cost sh 1,260, while nine type x pangas and fifteen type y pangas cost sh 1,620.
