Lesson Summary
Three partners Amina,Bosire and Karuri contributed a total of ksh 4800000 in the ratio 4:5:7 to buy an 8 hectares piece of land. The partners set aside 14 of the land for social amenities and sub-divided the rest into 15m by 25m plots.
a)Find
i)the amount contributed by Karuri.
ii)the number of plots that were obtained.
b)The partners sold the plots at Ksh 50,000 each and spent 30% of the profit realized to pay for administrative costs. They shared the rest of the profit in the ratio of their contributions .
i)Calculate the net profit realized.
ii)Find the difference in the amount of profit earned by Amina and Bosire.
Text Answer
a)Find
i)the amount contributed by Karuri.
716x4,800,000 = 2,100,000
ii)the number of plots that were obtained.
8 ha to m²( multiply by 10000) = 80,000m²
𝟏𝟒 x 80000 = 20000
Remaining land = 80000- 20000 = 60000m²(made for plots)
Area of one plot = 15 x 25 = 375 m²
Number of plots = 60000 ÷𝟑𝟕𝟓 =160 plots
b)The partners sold the plots at Ksh 50,000 each and spent 30% of the profit realized to pay for administrative costs. They shared the rest of the profit in the ratio of their contributions .
i)Calculate the net profit realized.
Amount from sales of plots = 160 x 50000 = 8000000
Profit = 8000000 – 4800000 = sh 3,200,000
30% of 3200000 = 960000
Net profit = 3200000 - 960000 = sh 2,240,000
ii)Find the difference in the amount of profit earned by Amina and Bosire.
Amina’s share =416x 2240000 = 560000
Bosire’s share =516x 2240000 =700000
Difference in their share = 700000 -560000 = sh.140000
