Meru University is a public technological university in Meru county and direct opposite to Nchiru hills. The university is approximately 15 kilometers along Meru-Maua road. Its history goes back to 1976 when it started as Meru college of technology as a constituent college of Jommo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), then later chartered by the former president H.E Mwai Kibaki in 2008 to be what it is now Meru university of science and technology.The university has two satellite campuses namely; Town campus located at Hart towers Meru town and Marimba campus located at Kibirichia.It has currently an average of three intakes every year leading to a population of 10,000 students from every corner of the country. There are academic centers such as the Marambii library which has a variety of study material, discussion rooms, strong wifi, computer laboratory and a clean conducive health center for nursing and medical students. The school’s cafeterias and canteens are well equipped to give the students food of their choices. Some of the courses offered in by the school include Engineering, Information technology, Medical and nursing Agricultural and Food science.On the sport sector, Meru University has well maintained fields for football, volleyball, basketball, handball and table tennis. Students are also given a chance to get extra skills in Karate and swimming from a wide range of Kung Fu and swimming classes every Friday evening. For the students who wish reside within the school, there are more than 2000 hostels.Depending on your mode of travelling, I assume you are stuck at either Meru town or Makutano and you don’t know the A or B direction to take next. Travelling by public vehicles and you alight at Makutano, just board another vehicle and stop at Nchiru. It is a 20-40 minutes journey and will cost you just 50 shillings. For the freshmen travelling from Nairobi and get yourself at Meru town, you just need to board another vehicle with Nchiru sign board, a journey that will take you 30-45 minutes and cost you 100 shillings. It’s my believe that the private travellers have the direction but all you need is to enquire before you leave and follow the direction to Nchiru. You know you are right there when you are greeted by Meru university state of the art gate with a five star green field in front.With the recently build an in service innovation and entrepreneur center, I find the required quality to nurture fresh student’s ability to acquire the skills they require. A far as the student is committed to the studies, complete the assignments and follow all the rules and regulations in line with the campus, there will be no reason to collide with the lecturers and other staffs within the school.
