If you grew up in a good Kenyan family then you might remember how hard you mother tried to make you behave well during dinner. We used to wonder why they did not let us stick our fingers into our mouths that were stuffed with food.Little did we know that many years later basic table manners would be the deal maker or deal breaker in many situations in our lives.

*Wash your hands before you eat.It does not matter whether you are using forks or spoons,it is just hygienic to wash your hands with soap.

*Serve a portion that you can finish.Leaving food in your plate is inconsiderate. It makes you look like you do not care for those who will sleep hungry. The food you leave in your plate cannot be refrigerated but the one you should have left in the main bowl would have been kept till later.

*Keep your knuckles off the table.I do not know why this is a rule but hey, rules are rules.

*Eat with your mouth shut.Food that is being broken down is not a very good sight. It conjures up some bad ideas not welcome at dinner. You do not want to spit particles into people's faces neither do you want to make monkey noises when eating.

*Swallow before you speak.Nature is not competitive, your mouth cannot chew and speak at a go.Spare it the agony of trying!

*Request someone to pass something that is out of your reach. You do not want to make people smell your armpits as you push them to reach the salt shaker!

These basic rules will help you even as you find that special person or job.
