George Cunnings once quoted that “Leadership is seeing what other people do not see, listening when others are talking and being optimistic when everyone around you is pessimistic”. Many of us, if not all of us have the desire to lead in a particular field; we are not wrong in seeking for this. No! I believe that everyone was created a custodian of a certain expertise, which we could monopolize.

I know for sure that I have stirred something in you! Then, if we believe in the so called “leaders” then why do we have so few who seem to actually know where they are headed to with their lives while others make us come to the conclusion that they have no contact with their purpose in life? Unfortunately, it does not take just faith in your ability to become a leader, you need to know yourself. Have a clue of who you really are.

I know that there're so many books, opinions of philosophers, advice from role models and even suggestions from other people that try to offer solutions to the challenges of knowing yourself. I know of many people who have actually benefited from the above remedies but maybe for you none of them has actually worked, or like a majority out there, you have never tried any? Well, allow me to offer you something that actually worked for someone I know. What may follow may not be new to many but I know for others this might be a sheer revelation. Temperaments!

These are qualities of a person which are actually inherited. They usually have four categories:
• Melancholy
• Sanguine
• Phlegmatic
• Choleric
Let me describe each one of them so that you may group yourself as to where you exactly lie. Out of these categories, there’re two groups of people: extroverts and introverts.

These are the sanguine and the choleric and the phlegmatic and melancholy respectively.

1) SANGUINE
You cannot fail to notice a person of this temperament. When he or she enters the room, they light up their surrounding with warmth- they’re very social and friendly. They’re bound to get the quietest people to talk to them, as they’re quite infectious. Above all these, they’re compassionate about whether they get themselves involved with. By being bubbly, they also cultivate confidence and they’re quite optimistic. Unfortunately, they too have their shortcomings just like any other ordinary human being.
They tend to exaggerate most of the things they do and are also emotionally unstable. This is the kind of person who is jumpy at one time but when in a bad mood, they tend to posses the extreme opposite. They sometimes tend to be undisciplined.

2) CHOLERIC
The picture that comes into my mind is that of a person on a motorcycle with the kind of look on the face that says; I know exactly what I want and I am exactly going for it. This is exactly who they are. They have a will; strong enough to knock down a bulldozer. They have leadership abilities, and very independent and decisive. They at all times have visions and are very productive. Amidst all these, their passion to achieve their goals makes them cold, unemotional and domineering. They’re very sarcastic and prove to be unforgiving. They are also very crafty and can do anything and almost everything to get what they want. This makes them pretty good backstabbers.

3) PHLEMATIC
These comprise of the procrastinators of the day. They seem to lack motivation in all what they do. These guys can plan to mow the lawn or rather let us go to the local example; clearing the breakfast dishes and just take a whole to get the energy to do so. They are also stingy and selfish. You would wonder if they do not do the work they’re meant to do, then what do they do. They spend most of their time worrying and in fear, forgive me for the irony, but they are calm and quiet. Such people are dependable, diplomatic and organized. They also unlock the humorous side of people.

4) MELANCHOLIC
They sacrifice most of their time to do work where they either invent something or research on something. They're very analytical and gifted at the same time. Their dedication to work makes them self-centered and unsociable. They at times become moody. Unfortunately, they love revenge and are quite negative.
It is best if you reread this article again so that you can effectively analyze yourself on which character you play in life. I hope you are able to trace who you are. Discovering your highs and lows will enable you to move to your purpose in life. I know this sound like some cliche, from a bestseller or something but it’s actually very true. Last but not least, get in touch with your creator, the designer of your purpose in life and get to find yourself even better.
