There are many shareholders to the education of the child; teachers, the pupil, society and the parent. So as parents how do we ensure children do not fail exams?

The most obvious thing that a parent must do to help their child learn well is to take the pupil to a good institution of learning. In addition to they must also guarantee that the student does not get any interruptions (getting sent home because of lack of fees) by paying the fees on time. This stability in the financial sector gives the child comfort and less worries. He/ she can instead focus better on the school work.

Moreover, the parents must provide a conducive environment at home. This means the home should have minimum distractions such as noise and insecurity. You can provide a secluded area for them to study peacefully. They must also not have heavy chores around the house that may keep them away from doing their school work. Give them activities that captivate their minds e.g. sending them to the shop with big money so that they can calculate how much the cost of the product is and how much change to expect. This will sharpen their math skills.

Parents should be more involved in the school work of the children. Do not leave everything to the teacher, academic wise and discipline wise. You should be in the front line to follow up on the progress of your child. Make sure that they have completed their homework. Make regular visits to the schools to check on the performance of your child.

Children need materials to revise and understand the concepts in class better. As parents, you must provide those materials for the child to revise well and have a good education. Be it stationery or revision books and even past papers.

These materials also motivate the child to do better and getting a good result in the end.

Motivation is another essential factor for the child to perform well. When they have done well congratulate them by buying them gifts that they have worked to deserve. Make them promises that will make them aim higher and achieve more. Give them breaks when they are studying to hard and are exhausted. There is no need to push them when they are tired and exhausted.
