Adult education in kenya is run under the ministry of education as an adult and continuing education (ACE) programme. The ACE programme is meant to improve literacy levels (reading and writing skills) as well as numerical skills. Adult education has been touted as a key factor towards achieving vision 2030 goals. It will also play an important part in the struggle against poverty in general.Efforts have been made to improve the relevance of the adult education programme in Kenya. Still it faces challenges few of which are briefly discussed below.1. Lack of funding. The programme suffers from minimal funding which cannot be able to sustain its operations. The programme mostly depends on money from donors.2. Lack of clear public policy. Adult and continuing education programmes are generally viewed as poor education for poor people. It is not given a priority and thus lacks proper policy to push its agenda forward.3. Accessibility. Lack of or poor infrastructure makes it harder for those most in need of adult education to access the service. In most rural areas where a large percentage of illiterate people are, there are poor road networks as well as few and far between adult education centres. This makes accessibility of this programme difficult.4. Inadequate number of trainers. There are few trainers who are well qualified to offer adult education teaching services.
