Bio-metric application can be divided into two distinct categories1.Identification applications: this focus on determining an individual identity2.Verification applications: are used to confirm an identity, looking to verify that person. The first step in both identification and verification is what is known as enrollment whereby the initial bio-metric data is collected from a subject.First the subject provides some proof of identity which is known as the identifier the bio metric data collected will b linked to whatever identity is listed on the identifier. The subject then provides the collector with the necessary bio-metric data through the available recognition systemThe data is collected, analyzed, encoded and stored on a template for future reference. these templates can be stored either within the bio-metric recognition device itself or in a central databaseProcesses1. Facial recognition systems: analyses and individual facial features that cannot be altered easily such as the sides of the mouth and the cheek bones3. Hand geometry recognition: an optical camera is used to obtain two dimensional images of the sides and back of the hand4. Behavioral traits: include speech pattern recognition systems whereby an individual is prompted to state a predetermined phrase into a microphone.the phrase is recorded and converted from analog to digital.
