The topic of leadership has sparked the interest of many executives all around the world. There is a continuous quest to learn new skills and ideas that would help in the operation of business. Among the topics discussed is “organization culture”. Probably this is an area that taps into the core of business organizations, which is why experts have come together to find amicable solutions of identifying and implementing a good organizational culture.

A senior executive of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in the US was quoted saying “While there are some gaps to be closed, the real issue that needs to be understood and addressed is that of culture and leadership”. He continues to say that even if your business has all the regulations in place, no amount of that would prompt an employee to behave ethically if he doesn't see pay attention to professional conducts and particularly when they believe they can get away with misconduct.

As a leader, you might be having some of the best brains to work with. But is your organization’s culture creating room for these people to present their ideas? Does it provide room for errors so that people can learn, or is it a culture where many prefer to keep quiet for fear of getting fired?

Apparently, many organizations operate this way. Their top leaders will not accept criticism from fellow executives or employees. Their choices are always the best and if you think that’s not so, you better look for your job elsewhere. However, such kind of culture can potentially damage a business, both internally and externally.

What’s the point of having top brains when you can’t welcome their ideas and pro-active initiatives? One may ask. The answer lies in the fact that some leaders have a know-it-all attitude, because they are the

bosses, they believe that what they think or know is what is best, they don’t understand the value of working as a team, sharing ideas and valuable information. For an organization to become successful, there must be some kind of information flow, ideas back and forth, and openness, in that one is not afraid that they would be fired if they raised an issue.
