Increasing your concentration when you are studying

It is sometimes very difficult to concentrate when you are studying at school. There are a lot of people who have all the time to study but they find themselves not reading, not because they do not want to, but because they cannot concentrate on what they are doing. Here are ways in which you can increase your concentration in your studies.

1) Rest for a while.
It is very hard to concentrate when you have not slept for two days. This is because you will keep on dozing off. Therefore, make sure that you sleep at least seven hours every day so that when you wake up, you will feel fresh and ready to learn without feeling sleepy all the time. Resting also helps your mind to store whatever you have learnt thus it will allow you to score better grades in your exams.

2) Take a few breaks from each subject.
Reading one thing all the time can be very monotonous and boring. Boredom can make you not to concentrate on what you are reading. Therefore, always try and change whatever you are reading every once in a while. You could even make a personal timetable for your studies, whereby you give each subject only a short amount of time, maybe forty minutes, before reading a different subject. This will allow you to do so much reading without feeling totally bored with your studies and therefore increasing your concentration in your studies.

3) Avoid getting distracted.
You might be in an environment which is very noisy or an environment where you are always being called or talked to by someone whom you know. Such environments will not allow you to concentrate in you studies because you will keep being distracted from what you are doing. Therefore, avoid all these distractions by

staying in a quiet and calm environment that has fewer people and fewer noises in it.

4) Do some physical exercises.
Do not spend all your time reading when you are at school. Take a little time to play a game with your friends or just try jogging around the school. It will calm your mind down and allow your mind to relax and stay fresh. This relaxation of the mind will allow you to concentrate more on your studies. It will also reduce your stress thus making your life in school a bit more fun.

5) Avoid multitasking.
There are some people who try reading and at the same time texting their friends and chatting on their mobile phones. Some even try reading while they watch a movie. This will only reduce your concentration in your studies and therefore make you to score low grades in your exams. Therefore, do one thing at a time. If you are reading, then read and make sure that your cell phone is switched off or even out of reach. This will make you concentrate more on your studies.

6) Develop regular reading patterns.
Your mind usually knows all your routines. Therefore, if you try reading during the time when you usually go out on a party with your friends, then you will find yourself thinking about your previous parties. Therefore, try and develop a regular reading pattern. This means that if you decide to study on Monday from the early morning until five o’clock in the evening, then do the same next Monday and the Monday after that and every other Monday. This will allow your mind to always be prepared to learn during your regular study hours thus increasing your concentration during your studies.

7) Remember the value of education.
There is a reason why we all learn. However, every once in a while, your mind tends to forget this thing that makes education so important to you thus you find yourself not concentrating in your studies because you have temporarily lost interest in education. Therefore, always have something that reminds you of why you are studying in the first place. This will inspire you to concentrate more in your studies.

If you thought that you could never concentrate more on your studies than you did before, then you must be absolutely wrong. Just follow the above steps and start seeing the good changes in your academic performance.
