Reasons why some students run away from school

Even after how far ahead the education system in Kenya has gone, there are still some few cases of students running away from school. The following are some of the reasons why some students run away from school.

1) To get attention from their parents.
Some parents do not spend enough time with their children. They spend most of their time at work or at other places and the only time such parents ever get to talk to their children and spend time with their children is only when they are called to school because of their children’s misbehavior. This makes some children to do some very bad things just to get the attention of their parents.

2) Drug abuse.
Some students use very harmful drugs which make them slaves to such drugs. However, schools do not allow students to use any harmful drugs. Therefore, the only way that most students who use these harmful drugs can get their hands on the drugs is by getting out of the school compound. Some of them come back while other realize that they cannot survive any longer at school without the drugs thus such students go away forever and never get back to their schools or their homes.

3) Pregnancy.
Some of the girls at school end up having sexual relationships which makes them to get pregnant while still at school. Some of them simply get abortions whenever this happens. However, there are some who for one reason or another end up keeping the child. Such girls run away from school to avoid being seen or laughed at by the other students when their pregnancy starts to show. Not just the pregnant girls, but also the boys who might be responsible for the pregnancy also might run away from school to avoid confrontation.

4) Feeling fed

Some teachers are very harsh or treat their students very harshly. This makes such students to either look for another school or run away from their current schools. Also, some students get extremely bullied and even when they report the cases of bullying to the authorities, they do not get helped as much as they would have wanted to be helped. This makes the students to run away from school since it is their only way out of this problem.

Students run away from school for different reasons, but these are the most common ones.
