A coconut palm is a tall tree where coconuts grow. It is mostly found along the coastal areas.
It has got a lot of benefits which can be easily classified into three parts namely;leaves,stem and fruits.

A: Leaves.
This is the located on the upper side of the palms. It can be used in the following
i) for roofing,that is,as thatches known as 'makuti'. It is commonly used due to its cooling effect as compared to iron sheets. It is also cheap.
ii) the leaves are normally having long and straight sticks which are used in making brooms.
iii) they can be used in weaving special baskets used for packaging of fruits like mangoes,oranges and avocados.
iv) used for making mats or some may use the same as doors for their houses.

B: The Stem.
The middle part of a coconut has got its own benefits too.
i) We obtain timber for furniture making and roof construction.
ii) it can also be used in art,that is,in wood carving hence people earn from the same.
iii) the stem may also make good charcoal when burnt.

C: Fruit.
This part is also found on the upper part of the palm. This is the part with many benefits compared to the other parts.
i) Fibre corvering;
can be used in
a) making traditional sieve
b) making high density matresses
c) making nests by the birds
d) making washing fibre used in washing utensils.
ii) Hairy shell;
can be used in
a) making ornaments such as earings
b) making traditional serving spoons
c) 'marriage blesser'-this is a tool made from the shell used in traditional wedding to bless the couple.
iii) Nut.
When broken,there is a white staff which is removed by a certain tool known as 'mbuzi',which when water is added and squeezed a milky juice is formed. This is used in
a) cooking African dishes
b) the milky juice can also be used for making body lotion and soap

when heated
c) the by products are used as poultry feeds and also makes African cakes
d) contains water that helps in kidney dialysis.
iv) Palm wine.
This is used
a) to relieve headache when fresh
b) in making traditional sauce
c) as a drink during traditional ceremonies
d) in performing rituals among the Mijikenda and
e) clearing dowry portion.

Indeed coconut palms are of much benefit and concentration should be done for most of the people realise these benefits which may help them in growing financial and healthy too.
