Challenges facing tourism in KenyaTourism is one of the main economic contributors including agricultural activities such as tea cultivation. It forms a higher percentage of revenue. Tourism involves movement of people from one place to another for reasons of sightseeing, pleasure and or investment. The challenges facing this sector include:-Human-wildlife conflictOnce the wildlife animals enter human territory and destroy properties, threatening survival of humans and crops, the angered inhabitants will sought vengeance by killing the wildlife. The case is evident of the Maasai Mara and the lions. This has reduced the number of wild animals causing extinction to others.Terrorists attacksSometimes tourists can be captured before arriving at the country to view the beautiful scenery. Kidnapping has also happened by an infamous group the Alshabaab. Such cases of insecurity hinders the tourists from touring the country. The number has and is still gradually reducing. The government needs to look unto this issue.Competition from the rest of the worldCountries like Switzerland has beautiful scenery and some other tourist attraction sites. The country Kenya therefore is sharing the market getting a small portion reducing its revenue.Marketing strategiesThe Ministry dealing with trade has had little fairs and exhibition in the act of marketing the tourist’s destinations. The personnel in this field should be of creative minds and much more needs to be done to sell the country abroad in the world market.Poor transport networksThe roads connecting the tourist’s destinations most of them are not tarmacked. Inaccessibility to such sites makes the tourists to shun them especially during rainy season when they are muddy.Political instability and diseasesThe post election violence of 2007 made a lot people from other countries not to venture Kenya. Lack of peace actually makes many fear for their lives. Disease outbreak including the airborne such as the swine flue posed a threat to tourists as it forms a pandemic. Others include waterborne diseases such as cholera outbreak is rampant in Kenya.Kenyans for KenyaMost Kenyans do not appreciate the great deal of tourist’s sites in the country. If Kenyans would participate in tourism, they would consider the usefulness of conservation and protection of the wildlife. In conclusion, Ecotourism should be incorporated to help create a social environment for human and wildlife survival.
