Statistics are in support of the fact that most people are not happy with their current employment. It is indeed very rare to find people who are employed to do what they really like. Considering the very few employment slots many are compelled to stay and do what they do and not because they enjoy doing it.

Freelance is a new haven. An opportunity for people to do what they actually love and get paid. Both freelance work and formal employment have their own pros and cons.

In freelance there is flexibility. You are your own boss and therefore schedule what you want to do when you want to do it. For instance, if you are a journalist you get to decide whether you will be a sports reporter or a legal reporter. In employment, you are confined within your job description with very little room for making your own choices.

In employment, one enjoys security of employment and does not have to worry where work will be sourced. In freelance, you are responsible for your own marketing. You have to sell your name in order to get more recognition.

The proceeds from a formal employment are certain. If you re employed for Ksh. 40,000/- then you know that after ten months your earnings shall be Ksh. 400,000/-. In freelance, your earnings are never that predictable. It depends alot on the amount of work which you can come across.

Whether to go to freelance or formal employment depends on sevaral factors. For instance the level of one's skills. Experts engage in freelance because they have adequate skills and are not worried about job security. The skills will always sell them and as a result they get lots of work.
