So form four students are just about finishing with their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE. What next?

Most see this as the opportunity to just sit down, relax and enjoy themselves. Do what they were restrained from doing while at school. Find new partners and experiment on various things. All this soon may be regretted.

After finishing high school, there are many productive things that one can do. Apart from the occasional learning of basic computer packages, lots of other interesting and life improving things can be done. From employment opportunities to those who did well on their examinations to improving or even discovering new talent, form four graduates can do a lot for the betterment of their lives.
So what can a form four graduates do after leaving school? Lets look at the different opportunities that present themselves to this group of people.

First, there is the learning of things that don't really have to wait for the release of results. Such courses mostly include computer related stuff such as basic computer packages, graphic and web design. Other courses would require one to register with their MOCK examination results. Truly, one would have done a lot before the results are finally released.

Another thing that one can do is to find a job. Okay, so I missed one crucial first step that one should do after finishing high school. Well, the acquisition of an identity card should be done earlier. If one has already reached eighteen years while still in school, then he/she can apply for it before clearing. It is better that when you are in the outside world, you possess an identity card.
Let us return to our main point; seeking employment. There are many employment opportunities available for a form

four leaver. They include sales representatives, BOG teachers, cyber attendants, Mpesa attendants and more. Some may require one to be informed in various areas like for example a cyber attendant should bee well informed in computers and their working. Even if the results are released, there is still a gap of time before one enrolls in a course, especially for the government sponsored students. At this time they can do such jobs as teaching or sales representatives. So others may say its hard to seek for a job. Well, you can create yours. Its not that hard a task but depends on your interest and the availability and access of resources.

If you happen to be living in your own compound and land, you can practice farming, either agricultural farming or animal rearing. The most common and easy to get resources is poultry farming. However, one can grow crops such as kales, onions, beans and more others. This is not the only venture that one can indulge into. You can also set up businesses that require little start up capital such as printing and typing services. Also, if a person you know has a business, then you can assist them in the best possible manner. You never know. You may be rewarded.

Is it only about the money? Definitely not! You can also involve yourself in activities that you are interested in. You may also have the opportunity to discover or improve on your talent. Lets take for instance that you were good in drama while in high school, then you can extend your interest in the outside world. You can audition for various acting jobs in places such as Kenya National Theatres, Phoenix, Jicho Four Productions and others. This may be the start of your to be great career. Interests in music, dancing, art, computer among others can also be done the same. So what do you say? Would you rather sit down or do something productive?
